The Haus des Lehrers and the Congress Hall on Berlin's Alexanderplatz are prestige buildings of the GDR. Behind the listed facades are now offices and modern technology.

East of Alexanderplatz, the Haus des Lehrers (House of the Teacher) was built between 1961 and 1964 on the site of the Teachers' Association building, which was destroyed in the war. A striking feature of the 54-metre concrete giant is the 125-metre long mural wrapping around the third and fourth floors - a seven-metre high frieze by Walter Womacka. The motifs: the social life of the GDR. Following the renovation, the former teacher's house now houses offices and business premises.

Berliner Congress Center

The former Kongresshalle (Congress Hall) next to it was built at the same time according to plans by Hermann Henselmann, Bernhard Geyer and Jörg Streitparth. The domed building has been home to the bcc Berliner Congress Center since it was renovated in line with its listed status until September 2003, with a total of 23 event rooms on a total area of around 10,000 square meters and 3,000 square meters of exhibition space.

The largest event room and centerpiece of the building is the Kuppelsaal, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people. The bcc hosts high-ranking national and international congresses, conferences and trade fairs from the fields of science, business and politics, as well as events from the media sector.
