The planetarium and Wilhelm Foerster observatory at the Insulaner offers a unique combination of taking a digital tour of the universe and exploring the night sky over Berlin.
The planetarium and the Wilhelm Foerster Observatory in Berlin-Schöneberg allow those interested to gain extensive insights into the world of the stars. The combination of planetarium and observatory is unique in Europe.
The Wilhelm Foerster Observatory has been standing tall on the top of the Insulaner hill since 1963. The mountain of rubble was heaped up after the end of the Second World War. The telescope, the "Bamberg refractor", provides a view of celestial objects in good weather conditions. The 12-inch telescope is on permanent loan from the former Urania observatory.
The Planetarium am Insulaner is located at the foot of the hill. In its dome, visitors can see an artificial starry sky as a 360-degree projection. There are also live astronomical lectures, radio plays, readings, music shows and children's programs. An astronomical library provides specialist literature. The Wilhelm Foerster Observatory and the planetarium have been listed buildings since 1991.
