Heiligensee

Heiligensee

Heiligensee is located in the part of the Reinickendorf district of the same name on the far northeastern outskirts of Berlin.

In the Heiligensee nature reserve near the Havel River, visitors will find peace and nature above all. On the shore of the private lake, which is closed to motorboats, there is a lakeside bath, a restaurant, fishing spots and a campground, among other things. A wooden viewing platform on the southern shore offers views over the largely fenced-in body of water.

Access to the water is mostly private along the 2.7-kilometer shore. Only at the Heiligensee lido, there is a paid bathing area open between April and October. Here, bathers will find a 3-meter diving tower and two water slides.

Facts about Lake Heiligensee

There are many legends surrounding Heiligensee. The white woman from Schifferberg, a Germanic goddess, is said to have once appeared there. According to legends, a palace that sank long ago can be found at the bottom of the lake. In addition, bells that sank to the bottom many years ago are said to lie in Heiligensee. Sometimes, the bells are said to reappear and warm themselves in the midday sun.
