On six consecutive evenings several teams, each consisting of two racing cyclists, compete. There is a different race every night, with varying degrees of speed and stamina. The competitions include the traditional, international "pacemaker race", a derby and a sprint race. In all of these competitions, champions from all over the world compete against amateurs. In between the races, a DJ takes the stage as part of an entertainment programme.
Starting in 1909, the Berlin Six-Day Race is the oldest six-day race in the world. In its first year, 15 teams of two cyclists each competed in the exhibition hall at Berlin Zoo for glory and, not least, 5000 Goldmarks.
