Work stipends for Non-German literature
Target group / Purpose of funding
The work stipends available under this programme are awarded to
support the artistic development of professional authors.
Stipends are available for work processes of a limited duration
and for work on ongoing projects that will either be continued
or completed during the funding period. Stipends are awarded on
the basis of the quality of work, potential for development and
continuity.
Another objective of this programme is the enrichment of
Berlin’s literary scene through the promotion and support of
innovative texts and authors.
Eligibility and conditions
- Applicants to this programme must have previously published work or be able to provide samples documenting their literary talent.
- Authors applying to this programme must live and work in Berlin.
- Authors who receive a stipend from a third party during the funding period are not eligible for funding through this programme.
- The online-application form must be submitted in German. The exposé must be submitted in German as well, respectively a translation of the original text. All further documents can be submitted in a language other than German.
Funding volume
The up to six stipends are dispensed in twelve monthly instalments of €2,000 each, amounting to €24,000 in total. The funding period for this programme begins in January.
Call for applications
A call for applications to the work stipend programme is usually issued in September of each year for the following year.
