Work stipends for Non-German literature
Target group / Purpose of funding
The work stipends available under this programme are awarded to support the artistic development of professional authors. Stipends are available for work processes of a limited duration and for work on ongoing projects that will either be continued or completed during the funding period. Stipends are awarded on the basis of the quality of work, potential for development and continuity.
Another objective of this programme is the enrichment of Berlin’s literary scene through the promotion and support of innovative texts and authors.
Eligibility and conditions
- Applicants to this programme must have previously published work or be able to provide samples documenting their literary talent.
- Authors applying to this programme must live and work in Berlin.
- Authors who receive a stipend from a third party during the funding period are not eligible for funding through this programme.
- The online-application form must be submitted in German. The exposé must be submitted in German as well, respectively a translation of the original text. All further documents can be submitted in a language other than German.
The number and duration of the scholarships can probably only be finalized by the end of the year 2019 because of the deliberations on the Berlin dual budget 2020/2021. In the previous year, 6 scholarships of € 24,000 each were awarded. It is expected that at least 6 fellowships will be awarded in 2020, and the total amount of available funds is unlikely to decrease compared to the previous year (€ 144,000).
Call for applications
A call for applications to the work stipend programme is usually issued in April of each year for the following year.
Please refer to the current version of the programme flyer for detailed information on submitting an application.
