Digitization of cultural heritage assets in Berlin

The Senate Department for Culture and Europe provides cross-sector funding for the digitization of cultural assets held by heritage institutions – archives, libraries, museums, memorials and sites of remembrance – located within the state of Berlin. Funding is available for the digitization of outstanding or otherwise high-profile cultural assets which have been identified as representative of Berlin or the holding institution.

The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) was commissioned by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe with establishing an interdisciplinary Service Center for Digitization Berlin (digiS). The Center consults on and coordinates the development and delivery of solutions for the digitization of cultural assets for institutions located within the state of Berlin as well as providing expertise in the fields of IT and long-term archival technology.

Commencing in 2014, the Senate Department for Culture and Europe will award grants to digitization projects through an independent jury of experts subject to the availability of financial resources. Service Center for Digitization
