Science and innovation

In the 2022/23 winter semester, about 200,000 students opted for the courses offered by the internationally renowned Berlin universities and colleges. Berlin enjoys great popularity worldwide as a place to study: 23.7 percent of the students come from abroad. They are all part of one of the largest and most diverse science regions in Europe:

The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the largest medical faculty in Europe and one of the oldest and most traditional hospital companies in Germany, combines the medical institutions of Humboldt Universität and Freie Universität.

The “Berlin University Alliance” of Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität and Technische Universität has been recognized as an excellence alliance under the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.
