EUREF Campus

A benchmark location for sustainable energy solutions

Since 2007, EUREF AG has been developing the EUREF Campus site. On over five hectares in the heart of Berlin-Schöneberg, this site has grown into an intelligent urban quarter for work, research, education and living – a future location characterised by optimal energy-efficient building technologies, a local micro-smart grid and low running costs through the use of regenerative energies. The EUREF Campus has not only attracted the TU Berlin, which offers five postgraduate courses here, but also such major international companies as Cisco, Schneider Electric and Deutsche Bahn.

The Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises supports this unique central location for ecological and economically sustainable urban development. Not only is the EUREF Campus dedicated to realising the goals of the energy transition, but it is also driving forward advances in renewables and creating the requisite basis for the ongoing networking of science, research and business needed in this sector.

At present, the site is scheduled for completion with around 25 buildings by 2018, including a residential share of up to 15%. All new constructions are sustainable buildings which have already qualified, or will qualify, for LEED Gold or LEED Platinum certification. The investment volume is approximately EUR 600 million, and the development aims at providing around 6,000 new jobs.

Since the EUREF Campus is also a benchmark location for the Berlin Senate’s Smart City Strategy, it is a model project for the future. As an “Intelligent Urban Quarter”, the EUREF Campus design objective of sustainable urban development integrates people’s needs from the earliest stages. The site itself clearly focuses on the infrastructure, and the supply concept is fundamentally aligned with utilizing urban technologies to generate, as far as possible, carbon-neutral energy and optimal energy use. In 2014, the EUREF Campus had already met the German government’s climate targets for 2050.
