Tourists are coming back, but the level of 2019 has not yet been reached
Berlin’s accommodation providers counted a total of 2.4 million (million) guests with 5.8 million overnight stays in the first quarter of 2023. That was 79.7 percent more guests and 64.2 percent more overnight stays than in the previous year, according to the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office. However, the number of overnight stays was still 17.6 percent lower than in the first quarter of 2019, when the corona pandemic had not played a role.
Overall, around 1.6 million guests from Germany spent an average of 2.2 days in Berlin with 3.6 million overnight stays. In the first quarter of 2019, the average was 2.1 days with 1.9 million guests and 3.9 million overnight stays. Guests from abroad stayed an average of 2.8 days (0.8 million guests with 2.2 million overnight stays). Here, too, the result from the first quarter of 2019 could not be reached again. At that time, 1.1 million guests with 3.1 million overnight stays were counted.

At the end of March, 727 accommodation facilities with at least ten beds and six campsites were open. The average occupancy of guest beds was 45.3 percent, after 29.0 percent in 2022 and 53.4 percent in 2019.
