Financial and Social Support

Families with children are supported by the state. You can apply for child allowance. Child allowance is guaranteed until the child is 18 years old; as long as the child is not in employment but registered as a job-seeker. More information

Day Care Centers

Many children are looked after in nursery schools (KiTa for short) in Germany. Children learn and play together in the KiTa. Children make new friends this way and learn German. More information


All children who live in Germany must attend school for at least 9 years. You and your children have a right to be taught. Attending school is free. More information

Children and Adolescents with disabilities

Independent of the type and severity of the handicap, every child in Berlin has the right to a seat in a children’s day care. More information

Reunification of Families

German citizens or citizens from non-EU countries who have a residence permit or a settlement permit are allowed to bring their relatives to Germany. More information
