Help and Opportunities for Women

different women in need of protection (under an big umbrella)

According to the constitution in Germany all people are equal before the law. Men and women have equal rights and nobody may be disadvantaged on the grounds of gender. The same rights must also be enforced in society. This has not yet been fully achieved in all areas. As such, in their working lives it is often more difficult for women than for men to have a career or to achieve a good income.

The sharing of work in partnership in the family still needs improvement. However, there are still women who experience violence from their partners. It is the responsibility of the state to promote the actual enforcement of equality of women and men and to work towards the elimination of existing disadvantages. This includes the existence of a broad range of counselling and help services for women in different life situations.

These provisions are also available to you and we warmly invite you to make use of them. The aim is for all women – regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation, level of education, marital status or residency status – to be able to live a self-determined life free of violence.

Education and employment

There are many education and qualification provisions open to men and women in Berlin. Additionally, there are provisions that are geared exclusively to women.
