Permit for high-capacity and abnormal load transports

High-capacity and abnormal load transports are vehicles or their loads which exceed the measurements/dimensions and weights required by law.

You need a concession and / or exception permit for any traffic with vehicles and articulated vehicles the load or measurements, axle load or gross vehicle weight of which effectively exceed the generally accredited limits (§29 subparagraph 3 and / or § 46 subparagraph 1 no. 5 of the Road Traffic Regulations /Straßenverkehrs-Ordnung).

The authority in whose area of responsibility the transport starts or in which the company’s headquarters is located is responsible for the issuance of the concession or exception permit.

Foreign companies submit their application for high-capacity and abnormal load transports to the administrative authority responsible for the area of the border crossing.

For an application for a high-capacity and abnormal load transport, you must use the application form according to the Guidelines for the application and permission procedure for the conduct of high-capacity and abnormal load transports (“Richtlinien zum Antrags- und Genehmigungsverfahren für die Durchführung von Großraum- und Schwertransporten”, RGST 1992).
