Opening concert marks the Berlin-Tokyo anniversary
The Senate Chancellery, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and the Embassy of Japan hosted a concert and a reception at the Berlin Town Hall on 21 February 2014 in honor of the 20th anniversary of the city partnership between Berlin and Tokyo.
Speakers included Permanent Secretary Hella Dunger-Löper, Berlin’s Delegate to the Federation and Commissioner for European Affairs, and the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Takeshi Nakane. The speech of the Governor of Tokyo, Yoichi Masuzoe, was read by Chihiro Sakurai of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The musical program was performed by the award-winning violinist Sayako Kusaka, who has been the Konzerthausorchester Berlin’s first violinist since 2008, and Kotaro Fukuma, a pianist who enjoys international acclaim. His celebrated performance at the Young Euro Classic Piano Festival first captured audiences in Berlin.
