Berlin – Los Angeles city partnership

30.06.2014 - 05.07.2014

Councilman Tom LaBonge of Los Angeles’s 4th District visited Berlin from 30 June to 5 July 2014 with an eight-person cultural delegation and three water specialists. Tom LaBonge met with the Governing Mayor while he was here. The water specialists, Los Angeles City Engineer Gary Lee Moore, Chief Deputy City Engineer Deborah Weintraub, and the director of Los Angeles River Project Office, Dr. Carol Armstrong, were briefed on the development and use of the Spree riverbank and on river restoration projects, using the example of the Panke, in a meeting with the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment.

The new Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, has made urban development measures designed to revitalize the Los Angeles River a top priority for his term in office. The idea is to “rediscover” the Los Angeles River for the city. Various projects (improving water quality, leisure and recreation areas, bicycle paths, restaurants, etc.) are to be realized along the 32 miles of the river that flow through Los Angeles.
