German-Spanish Chess Days in Madrid
The Berlin Senate Chancellery is supporting the German-Spanish Chess Days being held at Cibeles in Madrid. Under the patronage of the Governing Mayor, the Berlin Chess Federation hosted a tournament in Berlin on 1 September 2012 with 12 boys and 12 girls in the under-16 category. The winners were Fabian Alcer, Richard Pixa, Elina Lagunow, and Elisabeth Koch, who will be going to Madrid for the German-Spanish Chess Days at the expense of the Senate Chancellery.
In addition, Berlin is giving the city of Madrid 15 environmentally friendly chessboards made by a work center for people with disabilities. Once the Chess Days are over, these will be given to schools in Madrid so their students can start chess clubs.
