Berlin – Los Angeles city partnership

The Berlin-Los Angeles city partnership is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. A wide array of events will mark this anniversary throughout the year, especially in October 2017, when a film gala will be hosted by visitBerlin, the Senate Chancellery, and Medienboard on Friday, 6 October 2017, at the historic United Artists Theater in Downtown L.A.

Along with the film gala as a highlight event, “be Berlin” will be using a pop-up format to focus on science and academia, business, culture, music, food, and sports. In addition, Berlin Partner is working to consolidate the ties between Berlin and L.A. as startup hubs, while the Villa Aurora, the German Consulate General, and the Wende Museum in a new location, all of which are in Los Angeles, will all contribute to the anniversary activities.

In Los Angeles itself, Sister Cities of Los Angeles – with the support of Mayor Garcetti and under new leadership – is responsible for the city partnership and is helping with Berlin’s plans. A business delegation headed by the World Trade Center Los Angeles will visit Berlin in early July 2017, 50 years almost to the day after the city partnership agreement was signed on 27 June 1967.

The federal state of Berlin would like to fund additional, smaller projects during this anniversary year and has put out a call for ideas on suitable projects. You can find out more here.

All the projects and events will be presented soon on a joint Berlin – Los Angeles platform.
