Corteo follows the fantasy of the clown Mauro. After his death, the circus community mourns the loss, but conducts the funeral the way he wanted it: In an exuberant carnival atmosphere. By juxtaposing the big with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic, and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the clown's strength and fragility as well as his wisdom and kindness. The music, alternately lyrical and playful, carries Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion outwits reality.
