Yann Tiersen
Yann Tiersen is indisputably one of the most important composers of our time. With his unique soundtracks, he has achieved international fame and his albums have touched millions of people for decades.

Born in Brest, Brittany, and raised in nearby Rennes, Tiersen's musical career began at an early age: he began classical music lessons at the age of six and learnt the piano and violin. But in his youth he turned against the rigours of classical training - instead he played in punk bands and composed music for theatre productions and short films at the same time.
After studying classical music, he released his debut album "La Valse Des Monstres" in 1995 - an impressive testimony to his talent as a one-man orchestra. Whether harpsichord, banjo, piano, guitar or melodica - he played everything himself. With the follow-up albums "Rue Des Cascades" (1996) and "Le Phare" (1998), he cemented his reputation as an exceptional artist. His style, a poetic mix of modern classical music, French chanson, folk and pop elements, earned him a large international fan base. His final breakthrough came in 2001 with the soundtrack to "The Fabulous World of Amélie", for which he wrote new pieces as well as adapting older compositions from his first albums - a milestone in film music.
