In the beginning, there was the Thump. Or rather, the Southern California combo called Thumpasaurus, five young men from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music.
Singer and guitarist Lucas Tamaren, bassist Logan Kane, drummer Henry Was, keyboardist Paul Cornish and saxophonist Henry Solomon were already playing in various bands or composing music between jazz, folk, rock and classical before they decided to put funk at the center together and retell the biblical story: "In the beginning was the Thump, the primordial groove of the universe. Thump pumped through all things. In the beginning, the groove was harmony and harmony was groove, and they saw that it was good." Later, in a nutshell, Thumpasaurus populated Earth and imparted his wisdom before the forces of evil grew and caused him to flee toward the outer shell of space-time. Of course, the fact that everything ends well in the end is due to Thumpasaurus' music. And it is just as crazy as the story the quintet has knitted around it. Not coincidentally, it reminds of Sun Ra's Spaceflights and Parliaments Mothership, while the lyrics and the visual concept are influenced by Primus. But the Californians ground it all in the 21st century.
