On more than 500 stages in Europe, "The Phantom of the Opera" by the author team Deborah Sasson and Jochen Sautter has been enthusiastically received by audiences and critics since 2010. This makes this new German-language musical production, which was created to mark the 100th anniversary of the novel "Le Fantôme de l'Opéra" written by Gaston Leroux in 1910, one of the most successful touring musical productions in Europe. The musical sticks closer to the novel than other musical interpretations.
Superstars take on the leading roles
The role of Christine is interpreted by Boston singer and "Echo Klassik" award winner Deborah Sasson herself. Her multi-faceted and powerful soprano voice is ideally suited for this mixture of opera and musical.Musical superstar Uwe Kroeger could also be won for this outstanding production. He takes on the prominent role of the Phantom. New songs were composed and incorporated especially for him. For more than a decade, Uwe Kroeger has embodied all the major leading roles in the Viennese and German premiere theaters, including Hamburg's "Phantom of the Opera," "Elisabeth," "Les Miserables" and "Miss Saigon.
Furthermore, a large ensemble of outstanding performers from German-speaking countries is involved in the production. An 18-piece orchestra, specially assembled by musical director Peter Oleksiak, plays the music live.
Exciting special effects
The special effects by internationally acclaimed multimedia artist Daniel Stryecki alone are worth a visit to the musical. Elaborate, fast-paced video tracking shots through the labyrinth of the Paris Opera, falling boulders and the famous chandelier that falls from the ceiling with a tremendous roar seem so real that many audience members duck away in their chairs, startled.
