geRecht - Episode II: Cases of Freedom in Court

A three-dimensional theatrical film installation in the theater

Judge Baumann (Corinna Harfouch) is haunted by her past, as she recognises herself in the young Azade Jahangiri, who is appealing against the rejection of her asylum application after fleeing Afghanistan and Iran. Through her encounter with this young plaintiff, judge Baumann's private and professional spheres become intertwined once again. In the end, she declares the idea of justice within the German asylum system to be a myth and recognises her personal responsibility – as a judge and as a human being.

„geRecht“ – An overview

With “geRecht”, the suite42 collective, led by director Lydia Ziemke, examines the German legal system from within, in a hybrid theatre form. ‘geRecht’ does not explore the cases and fates of refugees but rather it focuses on the scope for action and possible interpretations in German asylum procedures. The three-part series ‘geRecht’ is presented in an innovative digital- analogue performance format. On floor-to-ceiling video projections, artistically designed rooms and through a multi-channel sound system, visitors come face to face with various larger-than- life legal experts and plaintiffs. A higly innovative, unique and tremendously topical theatre experience!
