Sibylle Bergemann (1941–2010) ist eine der bekanntesten deutschen Fotograf*innen. Über mehr als vier Jahrzehnte hinweg schuf die Berlinerin mit großer Leidenschaft ein außergewöhnliches Werk aus Mode- und Porträtaufnahmen, literarischen Reportagen und atmosphärischen Serien. Im Mittelpunkt stand stets der Mensch.
In der DDR arbeitete Bergemann freiberuflich und kontinuierlich im Auftrag verschiedener Kunst- und Kulturmagazine wie „Das Magazin“, „Der Sonntag“ oder „Sibylle. Zeitschrift für Mode und Kultur“. Nach Öffnung der Mauer war sie Mitbegründerin von OSTKREUZ – Agentur der Fotografen. Seit den 1990er Jahren fotografierte sie unter anderem für „GEO“, „Die Zeit“, „Stern“ oder „New York Times Magazine“.
Die Ausstellung zeigt über 200 Fotografien aus den Sammlungsbeständen des Museums und aus dem Nachlass der Fotografin. Erstmalig werden auch ausgewählte Motive des Frühwerks ausgestellt.
Das Projekt wird ermöglicht durch den Förderverein der Berlinischen Galerie und entsteht in enger Kooperation mit dem Estate Sibylle Bergemann.
