The Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold, Bund der republikanischen Kriegsteilnehmer e.V. is founded in February 1924 as a cross-party organization to protect the Weimar Republic. Social Democrats, members of the German Democratic Party (DDP) and the German Centre Party are committed to the consolidation of the Republic and respect for the constitution. Many of them are former soldiers of the First World War.

Soon after, the Reichsbanner has up to three million members. They fight National Socialism and anti-Semitism, left-wing and right-wing extremism. In 1933 the Reichsbanner is banned, its activists are persecuted, imprisoned or driven into exile.

This display depot shows material evidence of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold, which reflects the political commitment and social development of this democratic mass organization. The documents, pictures and objects have been collected mainly by the Hamburg branch of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold, Bund aktiver Demokraten e.V.. More detailed information on the individual objects on display in the Schaudepot can be found at a research station.
