The contemporary Senegalese artist Omar Victor Diop is coming to Fotografiska Berlin. The photographs of Omar Victor Diop (b. 1980) focus on the reformulation of history, the representation of experiences in the diaspora and the global politics of Black resistance. The artist himself appears as the main protagonist and interlocutor in these visual reinterpretations of key moments of historical revolt and Black struggle: he addresses the climate crisis, its impact on the global South and the African continent.

Omar Victor Diop at Fotografiska Berlin: Diaspora, Liberty and Allegoria

The work of Omar Victor Diop, who combines photography with other art forms, includes art, fashion, design and portrait photography. He uses artistic self-representation as a key tool to engage with complex representational politics, the embodiment of communities and ideas of self-fashioning. His practice is characterised by meticulously staged, dramatic images in which the artist himself appears as the main actor and interlocutor.

The exhibition presents three different but interconnected emblematic groups of works created between 2014 and 2021: Diaspora, Liberty and Allegoria.

Opening: Thursday, 18 January 2024 from 6 to 11 pm.

Runtime: Thu, 18/01/2024 to Sun, 28/04/2024
