A work by artist Anselm Kiefer bears the title of a well-known German song, Maikäfer flieg!. The title and painting evoke associations with 20th century German history, particularly the themes of war, flight, and expulsion, which are relevant today. The public conservation of the work makes it possible to look over the restorers’ shoulders and provides occasion to reflect. Participants can record their thoughts on Maikäfer flieg! in drawings or texts.
The public conservation of Maikäfer flieg! by Anselm Kiefer as part of the Zeit für Fragmente exhibition in the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin is Part 2 of the IN PREPARATION series. IN PREPARATION looks behind the scenes of museum work – specifically at the preparations for the new Nationalgalerie building at the Kulturforum.
