The Great Gatsby Ballet

The Great Gatsby - the success story of ballet. In autumn 2019 the international project will come to Berlin!

The Great Gatsby Ballet

It's the love story of the American lost generation. And it's the ballet event this fall: The Great Gatsby. The international show project, whose premiere was prepared by the best ballet masters from three continents, is now coming to Germany for only three performances.

"The Great Gatsby Ballet" inspires audiences and media alike

F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" is the chronicle of an unscrupulous fun society that today appears more modern than ever and has been the subject of major film productions in recent years. A society that has no equal in superficiality and greed for wealth. At the same time, the novel is a story of melancholic love, helpless friendship and great loneliness. Fitzgerald's "Gatsby" is still one of the most widely read English-language works today, a good 90 years after its publication. Now we experience the material as a virtuoso, lavishly equipped ballet. 50,000 visitors worldwide have seen the performances so far - record-breaking for a ballet in the contemporary dance scene!

The international ensemble stands for highest dance quality, innovation and creativity

The company around star dancer Denis Matvienko, among others first soloist of the famous St. Petersburg Mariinski Theatre and guest dancer in Paris and Milan, consists of 30 dancers from the companies of the Mariinski Theatre and the Complexions Contemporary Ballet (USA) as well as other international dancer personalities. In Dwight Rohden's choreography they show aesthetic as well as athletic dance art with high precision and dynamics. Rhoden, today artistic director of the Complexions Contemporary Ballet and previously dancer for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Les Ballet Jazz de Montréal and the legendary Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, combines classical ballet with elements of modern dance in "The Great Gatsby".

The atmosphere of the twenties of the last century is perfectly captured in the choreographies of the internationally sought-after artist Rhoden, who also works for Cirque Du Soleil and stage stars such as U2 and Lenny Kravitz. The addiction to senseless pleasure, which knows no scruples and no mornings, arises in the cool look of the roaring twenties and to sounds borrowed from jazz - the music of the time. In addition there are modern beats and wonderful symphonic music...
