Alexander Ekman is known for his fast-paced timing, witty humor and clever staging. He aims at creating works which the majority can connect to, exploring topics everybody can relate to, which both entertain and question the audience. Since 2006, he has devoted his time to creating choreographies all across the globe. In 2019, he worked with the Staatsballett Berlin for the first time, creating a new work for the company’s female Principal Dancers and a male soloist. Having been fascinated by the creations of hair artist Charlie Le Mindu, especially his Chewbacca costumes which completely wrap their wearers in long hair, Alexander Ekman decided to work with him. His piece LIB (referring to ›liberation‹) would not be a work by Alexander Ekman, if it did not have a humorous and bizarre note.

Sharon Eyal’s choreographies can also be described as vibrant experiments on the border between precision and supposed excess. Her works strike a nerve with audiences and dancers. The uncompromising Israeli choreographer has long since found a very personal, unmistakable artistic signature. Not only was she recently commissioned by Dior to contribute to one of the recent fashion shows, but is increasingly conquering European dance stages. In her first new creation in Berlin, she explored the emotional authenticity with the dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin necessary for the interpretation of her pieces.

Alexander Ekman ist bekannt für seine temporeichen, humorvollen Werke, deren Witz er wirkungsvoll in Szene setzt. Ihm ist es wichtig, Themen zu finden, mit denen sich eine Mehrheit seiner Zeitgenossen identifizieren kann, die das Publikum sowohl unterhalten als auch befragen. Seit 2006 widmet er sich dem Choreographieren und ist weltweit gefragt. Erstmals beim Staatballett Berlin zu Gast erarbeitete er 2019 eine Uraufführung für die Ersten Solistinnen des Ensembles und einen männlichen Solotänzer. Seit längerem fasziniert von den Kreationen des Haarkünstlers Charlie Le Mindu, insbesondere von dessen Chewbacca-Kostümen, die ihre Trägerinnen vollends in langes Haar hüllen, arbeitete Alexander Ekman erstmals mit ihm zusammen. Sein Stück LIB (in Anlehnung an ›liberation‹, engl. ›Befreiung‹) wäre kein Werk von Alexander Ekman, wenn es nicht eine humorvolle und bizarre Note hätte.

Als vibrierende Experimente an der Grenze zwischen Präzision und vermeintlichem Exzess sind Sharon Eyals Choreographien zu beschreiben, die bei Publikum und Tänzern einen Nerv treffen. Die kompromisslose israelische Choreographin hat längst zu einer sehr persönlichen, unverwechselbaren künstlerischen Handschrift gefunden, wurde nicht nur vom Hause Dior zur Gestaltung einer der letzten Modenschauen verpflichtet, sondern erobert zunehmend die europäischen Tanzbühnen. Die emotionale Authentizität, die zur Interpretation ihrer Stücke erforderlich ist, hat sie mit den Tänzerinnen und Tänzern des Staatsballetts in einer Kreation für Berlin persönlich erforscht.
