In the vaccination centre in Tegel alone, there were more than 1400 bookings, a spokeswoman for the German Red Cross stated on Thursday (Dec. 30, 2021). Those who want to take advantage of the opportunity on New Year's Eve as well will have to hurry: On Friday, the vaccination centers and offices will already close at 2 PM, according to the Senate Health Administration. On New Year's Day, they will be closed entirely. On Sunday (Jan. 2), vaccinations will be possible as usual again. According to the German Red Cross, more than 3200 slots have already been booked for the Tegel vaccination center.
Many vaccinations between the holidays
Thousands of people in Berlin used the time between Christ mas and New Year's Eve for a Covid-19 vaccination. The vaccination center in Tegel, for instance, was visited by an average of 4,000 people a day, including about 400 children. "The proportion of booster shots out of the grand total of vaccinations continued to be very high at about 80 per cent," the Red Cross spokeswoman said. The three Berlin vaccination centers and the two vaccination sites were also well attended during the Christmas holidays.
Unscheduled visits still possible
The regional association of the German Red Cross was very satisfied with the number of visitors. However, there are more capacities still. Spontaneous visits are also possible; however, organizers recommend booking an appointment in advance to avoid long waiting times.
This is how Berliners can celebrate and enjoy New Year's Eve during the pandemic.
