In many areas of public life in Berlin to which only vaccinated and recovered people had access, additional requirements such as mandatory face masks or tests will apply from Saturday (November 27, 2021).

The Senate agreed on Tuesday (Nov. 23, 2021) to expand the 2G rule. These new regulations are colloquially called 2G-Plus. In all areas where 2G is currently mandatory, such as in the cultural and recreational sector, an additional face mask requirement will apply. Even at Christmas markets opening under 2G rules, visitors will be obligated to wear a medical face mask. In places where this is not possible, such as at hairdressers, a negative test and social distancing rules will be required as an alternative.

Mandatory 2G rules for the retail sector

Also as of next Saturday, further sectors will be obligated to implement the new 2G model complete with mandatory face masks. This affects all retail outlets with the exception of basic supply stores such as supermarkets, gas stations, drugstores, baby stores, pet supply stores and workshops. Visitors to hotels and vacation rentals will also have to be either fully vaccinated or recovered as of Saturday.
