Vaccination centre visit possible without appointment

Vaccinations are to become even less complicated in Berlin. Berliners can now simply drop by three vaccination centres in the afternoon without having to register.

The idea behind it: Having to make an appointment for vaccination may be a deterrent. If this hurdle is removed, ideally those who have not done so so far can be motivated. According to the Senate Department for Health, the "spontaneous vaccinations" are offered between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the vaccination centres in Tegel, at the exhibition grounds (Messe) in Charlottenburg and at the Erika Heß ice stadium in Wedding, where the Moderna vaccine is used.

Waiting times cannot be ruled out

According to a spokesperson of the health administration, the new offer allows for an additional four-digit number of vaccinations per day. Waiting times cannot be ruled out. Those who do not want to take the risk can, as before, book an appointment at one of the five vaccination centres that are still open. The vaccination centre in Tempelhof was closed on Tuesday evening.
"Booked today, vaccinated tomorrow without waiting", the health administration promises in this case. "However, we will of course also regularly readjust the resources between booked appointments and the spontaneous appointments as soon as we have first experiences with the acceptance of the spontaneous vaccination offer." The staffing in the three vaccination centres is already geared to the new offer, he said.

"It has never been so easy and quick to get vaccinated."

Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) said on Thursday that she considers it a moral obligation of every Berliner to go for vaccinations. "For self-protection, for the protection of fellow human beings and to preserve the freedoms we fought for together against Covid-19." Kalayci pointed out the various vaccination options - whether spontaneous or with an appointment at the vaccination centre, at the employer's, at the doctors in private practice or at other offers in the districts. "It has never been so easy and quick to get vaccinated."
