The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were newly infected within seven days. On Sunday, the incidence for Berlin was still given as 6.2. Accordingly, the statistics show 267 new infections within one week. The RKI did not register any new deaths. A total of 3564 people in Berlin have died in connection with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
On Sunday, a Corona warning light in Berlin had jumped from green to orange. The reproduction rate (R-value), which indicates how many people an infected person infects on average, was above 1 for the fourth day in a row. On Sunday, the R-value was shown as 1.23 in the latest Berlin situation report. Values above 1 make it much more difficult to contain the pandemic.

The reason for the increase nationwide is the spread of the more contagious Delta virus variant, which now also dominates the infection in Berlin. So far, about 40 percent of the people in Berlin have received a complete vaccination. According to the latest assessment of the Robert Koch Institute, vaccination rates of 85 percent among 12 to 59 year-olds and 90 percent among people aged 60 and over are necessary.
