Cafés and restaurants are allowed to open outside at Whitsun
Many Berliners have been waiting a long time for cafés and restaurants to be allowed to serve guests again, at least outdoors.
On Tuesday, the Senate had held out the prospect of corresponding relaxation for outdoor gastronomy, and on Friday, according to information from the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, it has now decided on this - for the period from the Friday before Whitsun (21 May 2021). In addition to a mandatory hygiene concept against the background of the ongoing pandemic, a prerequisite is that the seven-day incidence remains stable below 100 until then. Then the federal emergency brake, which previously prohibited such relaxations, will no longer apply. Guests must also prove a negative Corona test or have full vaccination protection. Restaurants will still not be allowed to serve guests indoors. No opening steps are yet planned for the hotels in the capital.
Berlin incidence rate currently clearly below 100
According to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the incidence value in the capital was 71.5 on Friday, 83.4 on Thursday and most recently still above the 100 mark on Monday. Only if the value, which shows how many new infections there have been per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, remains below the threshold for five working days in a row are relaxations possible the day after next. In Berlin, this would be possible for the first time next Wednesday. The Senate wants the first steps to be taken as early as then. For example, museums and memorial sites in Berlin could then reopen under the appropriate conditions.
