The number of new Corona infections in Poland has reached a record high for the third day in a row. Within 24 hours, 35 143 new cases were added, most of them (5264) in the Mazovia region with the capital Warsaw, according to the Ministry of Health.
In the same period, 443 people died in connection with the virus. The previous record of 34 151 was only reached on Thursday (25 March 2021). Poland has around 38 million inhabitants. In view of the drastically rising number, Poland is further tightening the lockdown from Saturday. Furniture shops and DIY stores will have to close again, and the same applies to hairdressing salons and beauty salons.
Poland classified as a high incidence area
The federal government has classified Poland as a high-incidence area. This category includes countries and regions where the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants exceeds 200 within one week. Entry from the neighbouring country bordering Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Saxony is now only permitted with a negative Corona test.
