296 new Corona cases: Traffic light still red once

The number of new infections with the corona virus in Berlin is 296. According to the Corona situation report of the health administration on Tuesday (16 February 2021), this was 100 more than the day before; 302 new infections were registered on Tuesday a week ago.

In the laboratory, swabs from the nasopharynx are tested for the Sars CoV-2 virus to detect infection.

The so-called seven-day incidence has fallen slightly, but the warning light is still red: according to the situation report, an average of 56.3 out of 100,000 people have been infected with the virus in the past seven days - the previous day it was 57.4. The light would only change to yellow at a value of 30, and then to green at 20. According to the situation report, the proportion of intensive care beds occupied by Covid 19 patients is 21.9 per cent. This is slightly higher than the previous day (21.2 per cent). It is below the 25 per cent threshold for a red signal. The traffic light is still yellow.

25 more Corona deaths reported

The reproduction rate, on the other hand, is in the green zone: the so-called R-value, which indicates how many people an infected person infects on average, is currently 0.81 - the day before the value was 0.94. If it remains permanently significantly below 1, the incidence of infection is reduced in the long term. Throughout Berlin, 125,282 people have been proven to be infected with Corona since the beginning of the pandemic about a year ago. In the meantime, 116,574 are considered to have recovered. The number of deaths related to the coronavirus infection is 2645, which is 25 more than the day before.
