The situation with corona infections in Berlin remains little changed and difficult. The so-called 7-day incidence in Berlin is just below 200, as in previous days.
The utilisation of intensive care beds also remains high at around 32 percent, so that two out of three traffic lights are on red, as they have been for some time, according to the health administration's situation report of Thursday (14 January 2021). There were 194.7 new cases of infection per 100 000 inhabitants in seven days. Should the limit of 200 be exceeded, Berliners would have to prepare for a restriction of movement. However, the restriction to a radius of 15 kilometres around the city limits should not apply before the weekend.
1222 new infections - traffic light red twice
The number of new infections reported on Thursday was 1222, bringing the number of people infected since the start of the pandemic to 110,747. Around 92,000 people are considered to have recovered. The number of deaths related to Covid-19 was reported at 1755 - that was 44 newly reported cases. The Berlin traffic light remained green for the so-called reproduction number (R-value). At the beginning of the week it was red. The R-value on Thursday was 0.84. It describes how many people an infected person infects on average. To slow down the pandemic, the value must be significantly lower than 1.
