287 of them are receiving invasive ventilation, according to statistics released Thursday (Dec. 31, 2020) by the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi). According to the Berlin health administration's situation report, nearly 34 percent of Berlin's intensive care beds are occupied by covid-19 cases, which continues to correspond to the color red on Berlin's traffic light warning system.

643 new Corona cases reported

According to the situation report, 643 new Corona cases were reported on New Year's Eve - however, the districts of Treptow-Köpenick and Pankow did not report any new figures. The trend of new weekly infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Berlin is declining and currently stands at 135.1 - which still corresponds to a red Corona traffic light. However, it is difficult to say whether infections are actually decreasing because of the holidays. In the Christmas week, significantly fewer laboratory tests had been made. Many doctors' offices are closed. Delays in reporting to the authorities are also likely to be an aspect.

Total of 97442 Corona cases in Berlin

The total number of Corona cases in Berlin since the spring is now 97 442, of which 77 560 are considered recovered. 1271 people died in total in connection with the virus, which is 24 cases more than the previous day.
