The number of laboratory tests for coronavirus in Berlin fell sharply during the Christmas week. Recorded were 47 593 such tests between December 21 and 27 - as few as last in September. This is according to the situation report of the health administration on Tuesday (December 29, 2020).
In the week before the holidays, more than 73,000 laboratory tests had been recorded. The proportion of positive tests continued to rise - to 15.6 percent. The professional association Accredited Laboratories in Medicine (ALM) also sees a significant decline in the use of laboratory capacities in the past week. This was explained by fewer smear tests and rapid test offers, which were used more frequently shortly before Christmas.
41 more deaths
According to the situation report, a further 1287 Corona infections were newly reported in Berlin (Tuesday of the previous week: 1504). This brings the total number of cases since the spring closer and closer to the 100,000 mark - with now 95,740. Of these, 75,069 people are considered recovered. The number of Corona deaths reported in Berlin rose by 41 within a day, bringing the total number of people who have died in connection with infection with the virus since the start of the pandemic to 1213. Berlin's Corona traffic light remains at red for two of three indicators. Intensive care beds are 32 percent full of Covid 19 patients, and the number of new infections per 100,000 population over the past seven days is 160.9.
