In Berlin, the number of people who have died following Corona infections continues to rise. In the situation report on Monday (21 December 2020), the Senate Department for Health reported 17 new deaths. This means that 1024 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 441 alone were between 80 and 89 years old.
The number of new infections recorded within one day rose by 953 to 88 030 cases since spring, according to the report. A total of 67,133 people are considered to have recovered. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) assumes that there is an unreported number of additional pandemic deaths nationwide, since the Corona infection is not recognised in every patient. The Senate's Corona traffic light remains red for two indicators: the occupancy rate of intensive care beds with Covid 19 patients (29 per cent) and the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days (218.2). Accordingly, the district of Reinickendorf recorded the most new infections with 306.7 per 100,000 inhabitants.
