With the start of the several-week lockdown to contain the Corona pandemic, the sale of alcohol for immediate drinking in glasses or cups and the drinking of alcohol in public outdoors will be officially prohibited. Thus, direct consumption of the currently frequently offered "Glühwein to go" services is also no longer permitted in the capital.

Sale of alcohol prohibited on New Year's Eve

Restrictions also apply on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. On 31 December 2020, the serving, distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited from 2 pm to 6 am the following day. This is the result of the current ordinance on the revision of the Berlin regulations for the protection against infections with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 of the Berlin Senate. The regulations will initially apply until 10 January 2021.
