The number of new corona infections in Berlin remains at a high level. Within 24 hours 1123 cases were reported, according to the Health Administration's situation report of Wednesday (9 December 2020).
On Wednesday of the previous week, the figure had been 958. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 74 554 corona cases have been recorded in Berlin. Of these, 54 170 people are considered to have recovered. Compared to the previous day, 17 more deaths have been reported following corona infections, bringing the total number of deaths to 749.
The Corona traffic light is still red for two indicators: with 193.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, the limit value of 30 is still clearly exceeded. In addition, the occupancy rate of intensive care beds with Covid-19 patients remains high: the figure is 26.6 percent and thus above the critical mark of 25 percent. Although the traffic light shows green for the reproduction rate, the value of 0.95 is only slightly below 1. In order to slow down the pandemic, it would have to remain well below 1 for a long time.
According to the report, more than every tenth corona test in Berlin is now positive (12.3 percent). With around 62,000 laboratory tests last week, considerably less is being tested than at the beginning of November. At that time, the peak value per week was around 78 500. However, laboratory capacities were exceeded.
