This brings the number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 333, according to the new situation report published by the Berlin health authorities on Thursday (November 12, 2020). Four weeks ago, on October 22, 245 deaths were registered.

Delays in reporting could lead to high case numbers

According to the new figures, in 1960 known corona infections were added since Wednesday. That was almost 800 more new infections than the day before (1132). However, the fluctuating daily case numbers may also be related to reporting delays by health authorities.

Kalayci: No quick end to corona restrictions in sight

"The number of new infections remains alarmingly high," Berlin's Health Senator Dilek Kalayci summed up on Thursday. Shortly before the half-way point of the partial lockdown, she said, there was no quick end in sight to the corona restrictions. "There is absolutely no reason for the all-clear," she added.

But Kalayci also sees success. The rapid increase in the 7-day incidence has been slowed down. This figure represents the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days. However, it is currently at 202.5 - and thus still 12 percent higher than in the previous week. The limit for the Berlin Corona traffic lights is 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The traffic light has long been set to red for this criterion.

Almost 1000 Covid-19 patients in Berlin hospitals

According to the current Corona situation report, 265 Covid 19 patients are being treated in intensive care units, which corresponds to a 21.4 percent utilization of the beds there. At the critical mark of 25 percent, this traffic light would change from yellow to red. In total, almost 1000 people in Berlin are hospitalized with corona infections.

R-value still in the green range

Only the R-value is with 0.78 further in the green range. This indicates how many people on average are infected by a diseased person. However, the number of undetected cases of infected persons in Berlin is estimated by public health officers to be four times higher than the test results show. Only people with severe symptoms will be tested in the public health offices.
