Of these, 21 330 are considered to have recovered. Experience shows that the number of cases is lower on Mondays than on other weekdays. On Monday last week, there was an increase of 930 cases.
According to the management report, 166.3 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants have been recorded in the past seven days - which puts the capital well above the critical threshold of 50 and also above the federal average. German Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) said on Tuesday that it was necessary to "get back down to the range below 50". Only then, she said, would the health authorities be able to comprehensively track infection chains and also break them.
The occupancy rate of intensive care beds with Covid-19 patients has increased continuously in Berlin in recent weeks and currently stands at 13.7 percent. 702 patients are treated as inpatients, 170 of them in intensive care units. A further increase can be expected in view of the infection figures of the past weeks. If the mark of 15 per cent would be exceeded, the citizens of Berlin Corona traffic light jumped with the indicator intensive care beds for the first time on yellow.
According to the latest data available in the Management Report, the number of tests performed in Berlin in calendar weeks 41 to 43 was more than 60,000 per week in each case. The proportion of positive results rose from 4.1 percent to 7.6 percent during the period.
