In view of the second Corona wave, there is a new information offer for refugees in Berlin and beyond.
In a podcast, they are given advice in 13 languages on infection prevention, the right behavior in the pandemic, quarantine or why they should continue to send their children to school. The State Office for Refugee Affairs (LAF) announced on Wednesday (October 28, 2020) that the program builds on the positive experience with a similar offer in spring, which was also widely used outside of Berlin.
Currently, around 19,000 people live in 82 Berlin refugee shelters under the jurisdiction of the LAF. The vast majority of them are "extremely disciplined" in the Corona crisis and are willing to adhere to the rules of hygiene and distance despite the sometimes limited space and other adversities. Many people are concerned about the pandemic situation, also in view of the sometimes dramatic corona situation in their countries of origin, where family members live. Against this background, the home operators are doing a great deal to protect the health of the residents.
According to the LAF, 339 refugees have been proven to be infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. Two of them died. Infected and contact persons can be temporarily accommodated in quarantine accommodation in the Pankow district and receive medical care.
