Masks to be mandatory at Brandenburg Gate and in more streets

From Saturday (October 31, 2020), Berliners and visitors will have to wear a mouth-nose cover on other busy squares and streets in the city center.

These include Pariser Platz on the east side of the Brandenburg Gate, the boulevard Unter den Linden, Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz. The number of streets and squares where masks are compulsory will thus rise to 33, as a spokesman for the health administration said on Wednesday. Previously the "B.Z." had reported on the Senate resolution. In order to slow down the corona virus, compulsory masks have been in force on ten streets and squares, including Friedrichstrasse and Kurfürstendamm, since Saturday. In addition, there are now also places like Hermannplatz, Kottbuser Tor, Breitscheidplatz and the central station squares.

Urgent recommendation to wear a mask in public places

In addition, the Senate formulates the urgent recommendation to wear a mouth and nose cover in public spaces as a matter of principle. An obligation to wear a mouth-and-nose cover is already in effect in stores, buses and trains, in offices, in restaurants away from the table or partly in schools.
