In future, it will also apply to weekly markets, particularly busy streets, shopping malls and queues where the minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained. This was announced by the Senate on Tuesday (October 20, 2020) at the press conference after the Senate session.

Overview: Masks will soon be compulsory in these streets

  • Tauentzienstraße (Schöneberg, Charlottenburg)
  • Wilmersdorfer Straße (Charlottenburg)
  • Kurfürstendamm (Charlottenburg, Halensee, Wilmersdorf)
  • Altstadt Spandau
  • Schlossstraße (Steglitz)
  • Bergmannstraße (Kreuzberg)
  • Friedrichstraße (Mitte)
  • Karl-Marx-Straße (Neukölln)
  • Bölschestraße (Friedrichshagen)
  • Alte Schönhauser Straße (Mitte)

Urgent recommendation to wear a mouth and nose mask in public places

In addition, the Senate formulates the urgent recommendation to wear a mouth and nose cover in public spaces as a matter of principle. An obligation to wear a mouth-nose covering is already in effect in stores, buses and trains, in offices, in restaurants away from the table or in schools - here, however, only outside the classroom and not in the playground.

Recently, it has already become a rule that between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. only a maximum of five people are allowed to be in public places together - or members of two households.

Corona numbers continue to rise

In Berlin, the corona infection incidence had recently been growing continuously. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days climbed to 93.8 (as of Tuesday). This puts the capital well above the critical threshold of 50.

In view of this development, the red-red-green senate has already passed various measures since September 28 or tightened them later: these include compulsory masks in office buildings, upper limits for private gatherings inside (ten people) as well as outside (50) and strict restrictions on contact at night.
