The health authorities reported 706 new cases, as the health administration announced. This is the highest increase within one day since the beginning of the pandemic. Although more tests are now being carried out, experts point out that the proportion of those who test positive has also risen. However, these figures are not published for the state of Berlin in the daily situation report.

7-day incidence at 71.5: Berlin still considered a risk area

At the same time, 229 additional patients are considered to be in recovery. Furthermore, eight of the twelve city districts are still above the critical threshold of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, in some cases significantly so. Throughout Berlin, this value is now 71.5, and above the value of 50 a region is considered a risk area.
The value in Neukölln, the most severely affected district of Berlin, has once again risen considerably compared to Monday, to 171.3. In Mitte it increased to 117.2, in Tempelhof-Schöneberg to 92.9. The districts of Pankow, Lichtenberg, Marzahn-Hellersdorf and Treptow-Köpenick in the east of Berlin are still well below the critical threshold.

«This is not a time for trivialization, but of great caution.»

Berlin's health senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) views the development with concern: "Slowly but surely, hospital treatments for Covid-19 patients are also increasing. And this should be a warning to us," she said on Tuesday. "This is not a time for trivialization, but of great caution. Unlike on Monday, the Berlin's warning system of three traffic lights shows only one red light - for the aforementioned threshold of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days.

R-value back in the safe range

The so-called reproduction value, which indicates how many people an infected person infects on average, is 1.09, just below the limit defined as critical. On Monday it was 1.2, and the third traffic light is also green. It shows the utilization of the intensive care beds with Covid-19 patients. The current value is 3.8 percent.
A total of 19,033 people have been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the epidemic in Berlin. Of these, 14,881 are now considered to have recovered. 236 people have died in connection with the virus, two more than on Monday.
