Stricter corona rules for private parties and demos

For larger private celebrations such as weddings or birthday parties, stricter rules will apply in Berlin from September 5, 2020. The hosts must have a hygiene concept and present it to the police or the public order office on request.

They must also ensure that the minimum distance rule of 1.50 meters is observed. This rule applies to celebrations with 50 or more participants - indoors or outdoors, in apartments or elsewhere. Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) had said after the Senate decision on Tuesday that there can also be controls.

New corona rules also apply to restaurants

The obligation to record guest data now applies not only to indoor restaurants but also to outdoor restaurants. And not only the operators must comply with it, but also the guests. They are now obliged to provide complete and truthful information. If they fail to do so, a fine of between 50 and 500 euros may be imposed.

Corona rules also apply to rentals

For private parties in restaurants, the Corona rules apply from Saturday onwards, which must already be practiced in other guest rooms anyway: These include the obligation to wear a mouth and nose protector as long as you are not sitting in your own seat.

Masks required for demos with more than 100 participants

Finally, there is an important innovation for demonstrations: At public gatherings with more than 100 participants, masks are mandatory. This requirement is also to apply to a smaller number of participants when chanting or singing at the protest. Exceptions are foreseen for car and bicycle parades, for example.
