29.07.2020, Brandenburg, Schönefeld: A sign with the inscription "Ankunft Arrival" can be read above a door at the terminal of Berlin Schönefeld Airport.

The launch was originally scheduled for this Thursday (30 July 2020). The airport operators and the Charité did not initially provide any information on the reasons for the delay. Since Wednesday, holidaymakers have been able to have themselves tested for the Sars-CoV-2 virus at Berlin Tegel Airport on their return. There, too, the start was delayed by several hours because network problems had to be fixed, a Charité spokeswoman said.
The tests are currently still voluntary. However, those who cannot present a negative result must be placed in a two-week quarantine after returning home. Passengers do not have to pay anything. It is expected that the tests will become mandatory starting next week.
The airport operator expected on Wednesday that only a few returnees would be tested voluntarily. A spokesperson said that about 2000 passengers from risk areas arrive in Berlin every day at both locations. In Tegel, this mainly concerns flights from Turkey, which is on the list of risk areas of the Robert Koch Institute. In Schoenefeld, mainly airplanes from Eastern European risk areas land.
