Cororna traffic light turns red

In Berlin, one of three warning lights in the Corona pandemic has jumped to red. The so-called reproduction value was 1.4 on Tuesday (July 28, 2020), according to the Senate Health Administration in the evening. In the 7-day statistics it was 1.26.

The R-value shows how many people an infected person infects on average. It refers to infections 8 to 13 days ago. If the value remains stable above 1 for a longer period of time, there is a risk of another exponential increase in the number of cases. Then an infected person infects more than one other person. The reproduction rate is one of three indicators in the Berlin traffic light rating system for evaluating the occurrence of infection: If the R-value is above 1.2 at least three times in a row, this traffic light shows red. However, the other two traffic lights - new infections in relation to population and intensive care bed capacity - are currently still in the green zone.

Number of new infections increased by 51 to 9070 as of Tuesday

After the three-part corona traffic light, measures must be discussed and prepared when two of the three indicators are yellow. If two of the three indicators are red, measures to contain the infection must be implemented. The number of new infections increased by 51 to 9070 cases as of Tuesday. 39 people are isolated and treated in hospitals, 19 of them in intensive care units. 223 people infected with the novel coronavirus have died so far.
