Berlin loosens distance rules for restaurants

The distance rules in restaurants, which have been in force until now because of the corona pandemic, will be eased in Berlin. According to information from the German Press Agency, the Senate agreed to this at its meeting on 21 July 2020.

In future, for example, up to six guests will be allowed to sit at a table in the Restaurant, even if a distance of 1.50 metres cannot be maintained. The infection protection ordinance is to be amended accordingly.

Number of guests can now be significantly increased

Until now, in restaurants, chairs have had to be positioned in such a way that a minimum distance of 1.5 metres is maintained between guests. Exceptions are made for spouses and life partners and members of the own household. From the point of view of Berlin gastronomy, the previous regulation was a considerable restriction. The number of guests was reduced significantly as a result. The Berlin Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) has repeatedly discussed this issue with the Senate and the economic administration.
